Did you know that it was possible to ski in Dubai ? Yes, I am talking about skiing in one of the countries of the United Arab Emirates!
Ski Dubai is a crazy project that crystallizes all the excess of the city.
If you don't know what to do in the city during your stay, skiing in Dubai is one of the activities I recommend for its unique and crazy side.
You won't often have the opportunity to tell people that you were able to ski in a country where temperatures reach more than 122°F in summer (50°C)! Dubai's climate is not at all suitable for snow!
Skiing in Dubai, a unique activity
I was not especially interested the first time I heard about Ski Dubai.
Living not far from the mountains in France, I thought it was better to go there once in winter if I wanted to ski.
But Ski Dubai is really a great activity! I had the opportunity to go there twice: the first time with a friend and the second time with kids. Both times were really nice!
Ski Dubai is the biggest indoor ski slope in the world! With a length of more than 1,300 feet (400 meters) and a difference in altitude of 280 feet (85 meters), you can ski, snowboard or even slide down the snow in inflatable sledding tubes.
Every time I was there, there were LOTS of people, since it is located in the Mall of the Emirates.
So I strongly suggest booking your tickets in advance to make sure you'll have a place on the D-day and won’t have to wait in line 😉
Two options to go skiing in Dubai
If you want to ski in Dubai, you can choose between two different packages for your tickets. The option you choose will depend on the number of activities you want to do in Dubai, and of your knowledge of the city. Personally, I highly recommend the Dubai pass if it is your first time in Dubai and you want to do the must-see activities.
On the other hand, the one-way ticket will be the other best option if you have already spent a few days in the city and discovered the main sites, or if you just want to ski 😊Single Ticket | Dubai Pass |
---|---|
2-hour ski session | Choice of 3 to 7 attractions |
$58 | Starting from $170 |
The different activities available in Ski Dubai
In addition to being able to ski on the 5 ski slopes reserved for different levels (from green to black), the Ski Dubai complex has improved a lot in recent years.
It now includes a snow park where you can do tricks on skis, but also an alley reserved for inflatables sledding tubes.
For example, it is indeed possible to go down a snow track in a giant inflatable snowball.. It's ULTRA fun and it's a perfect activity if you have kids, for example.
You can also interact with penguins. This is a complementary activity to the basic ticket, but it will allow you to get close to the penguins.
My review of Ski Dubai
I didn't ski the first time I came to Dubai, and thought it was a shame afterwards.
Why this regret? Simply because in the end it's an activity I talk about a lot when I meet people, because they find being able to ski in the middle of the desert really crazy.
So it always reminds me of good times.
Of course, Ski Dubai is not as good as the ski slopes in Val-Thorens (France), but it still is a unique activity.
It is not possible to ski in the desert as a rule, but they did it in Dubai!
So my review is positive and I really recommend this activity.
How much do Ski Dubai tickets cost?
There are several packages:
- For those who just want to ski, it will cost AED 210 (about $57) for a two-hour session. You will have access to the ski slope for two hours (unlimited ski lifts included)
- For those who want to try the snow park, but also the descent in a giant inflatable snowball or the inflatable sledding tubes on the snow, I advise opting for the day package which costs AED 250 (about $68) and allows you to get closer to the penguins OR to enjoy a ski lesson, for those who don't really know how to ski (lent gloves are even included in this package, no need to bring your own)
As mentioned above, if you opt for a Dubai Pass during your stay, a ski session will be included among the different options you can choose. 😊
SHOULD YOU BOOK YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE?
I recommend booking your tickets for Ski Dubai in advance, as there may not always be places available.
It really depends on the period, so as a precautionary measure, it is better to book your tickets in advance.
WHERE IS SKI DUBAI?
Ski Dubai is easy to find: the resort is located inside the Mall of the Emirates.
You can easily get there by taking the red line of the Dubai Metro to the "Mall of the Emirates" station.WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS?
The ski slope is open from Sunday to Monday from 10 am to 11 pm.
On Thursdays it is open from 10 am to midnight, on Fridays from 9 am to midnight and on Saturdays from 9 am to 11 pm.
You can check the schedule directly on the official website.
Do you have to bring your own ski equipment?
Yes and no... all the ski equipment will be lent to you on site (pants, helmet, jacket, boots, poles and skis). On the other hand, you will have to bring your own gloves (or buy some on the spot depending on the chosen package).
So remember to bring a pair of gloves in your suitcase (yes, it may seem strange when you go to Dubai ahaha!).
