Do you want to experience a sensational day during your stay in Dubai? There is no lack of activities in this city where everything is excessive, but if there is one experience that I recommend, it is to skydive in Dubai.

Visiting Dubai – a beautiful city full of incredible natural and man-made sites, and discovering them from the sky is bound to give you unforgettable memories. In this short guide, you will be able to discover all the information you need to prepare yourself if you want to go skydiving in Dubai.

CONDITIONS FOR SKYDIVING IN DUBAI

skydiving dubai

Whether in the U.S. or in Dubai, skydiving remains a highly regulated activity. In Dubai too, you must be at least 18 years old to be able to skydive. Other than that, there is no age restriction, but people over 60 years old will have to present a medical certificate to attest that no contraindication prevents them from making a skydive.

For tandem jumps, the maximum weight may vary depending on the provider, but as a general rule, men must weigh a maximum of 220 lbs (100 kg) and women 198 lbs (90 kg). It is also possible that the BMI of the person who wants to jump should not exceed 30. Skydiving is also not recommended for pregnant women, and is not accessible to people with limited mobility.

Apart from these regulations, this activity is open to everyone - though it is currently unavailable.

If you wear contacts or glasses, don't worry: you can keep them on during the jump, because special freefall glasses will be placed over them. If you have a choice, you should still wear contacts for comfort.

If you tend to suffer from vertigo, this is not a problem either. During a skydive, you won't have the ground as a reference point. This means that you will not feel any loss of balance or discomfort, and you will be able to fully enjoy your experience.

Additionally, if you also want to scuba dive during your stay in Dubai, you should not plan this activity within 48 hours of your skydive – for medical reasons. However, you can dive whenever you want after your jump.

TIPS FOR YOUR SKYDIVE IN DUBAI

To ensure that your jump goes as smoothly as possible, it is recommended to get plenty of rest the night before the jump. Even if you are worried about getting sick on the plane or during the jump, eat a little, don't come on an empty stomach, and of course, avoid alcohol. Even if you are very tense before jumping, your instructor will reassure you with his professionalism.

If you want to skydive over Dubai during your trip, I really recommend booking it beforehand. Dubai is a very popular destination, and places are limited, so if you go there without taking the precaution of booking your skydiving in Dubai, you really risk not having a spot. This advice applies to just about every activity you can do in Dubai, especially those that are a little out of the ordinary, such as skydiving, but also helicopter flights over the city of Dubai or hot air ballooning over the desert, for example.

Depending on the weather conditions, it is possible that your jump will be canceled. Should it happen, you will be offered another date for your jump, which is why I recommend not booking your jump during the very last days of your stay in Dubai, just in case.

You should also know that in Dubai, it is not possible to jump between May and August, as the climate is not very favorable to skydiving during this part of the year.

PRICES FOR SKYDIVING

Skydiving in Dubai will cost you between $432 and $568 depending on the dropzone you choose. The Palm Jumeirah drop zone is the most popular, so it's also the one with the highest skydiving prices.

Important note: in Dubai, when you skydive, the video will be included in the experience. In the U.S., for example, skydiving may seem cheaper at first glance, but the video is offered as an option (and costs between $95 and $205, depending on the provider and the package chosen). Even in the U.S., jumping in the most famous drop zones is far from being cheap, and if you add to this the price for the video, you will see that the overall price is about the same.

The Dubai Skydiving Center offers skydiving from two different locations: the Dubai desert and Palm Jumeirah

SKYDIVING OVER THE DESERT OF DUBAI

Skydiving over the Dubai desert is a unique experience. Even today, the desert is an integral part of the lives of the locals, many of whom are descendants of the Bedouins. Visiting the desert is definitely a must in Dubai, and skydiving over the desert is a great way to rediscover it under a new light.

From Dubai, you will first drive for about 30 minutes to the drop zone located in the southeast of the city, near the highway leading to Al Ain.

From the air, you will be able to admire this desert which is part of the Rub al-Khali, the largest sandy area in the world, with its impressive sun-drenched red sand dunes.

SKYDIVING OVER PALM JUMEIRAH

This second drop zone is simply the best place to skydive in Dubai. You probably know Palm Jumeirah, this 3-mile wide artificial archipelago (5 km), which forms a gigantic palm tree. This site is a true modern symbol of Dubai, and it is one of the most famous attractions of the emirate. Since its conception, it was designed to be seen from the sky, so it's not surprising that it has become one of the most famous skydiving spots in the world.

Skydiving over Palm Jumeirah is without a doubt one of the most incredible things you will ever do on your trip to Dubai. During your freefall then your descent under open canopy, you will be able to see all the wonders of this city: the Palm Jumeirah archipelago of course, but also The World (the other artificial archipelago), the huge Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Creek, the Dubai Marina, and many other treasures of this city lodged between the desert and the sea.

In addition to these two incredible spots, you can also experience a unique freefall simulator in one of the city's shopping malls, City Centre Mirdif.

Thanks to this state-of-the-art facility, you will be able to feel the adrenaline of a real free fall, in complete safety, without the need for a plane or even a parachute. This activity will also appeal to children, who can discover the pleasure of free-fall from the age of 5.

HOW DOES A SKYDIVE JUMP WORK?

where to skydive in dubai

For a first skydiving experience in Dubai, you will of course always be harnessed with an experienced instructor as you launch into the void. These instructors are veterans with thousands of jumps under their belts, and all the equipment is certified, regulated and rigorously checked daily before each jump. Nowadays, the equipment is very reliable and skydiving is a safe activity.

Before you even take off, you will receive a quick training session of about 20 minutes to learn the safety instructions and the position to adopt during your jump. You will then take off and, after a flight of about 15 minutes, you will reach an altitude of 13,120 feet (4,000 meters) above Dubai.

Once you leave the plane, you will accelerate rapidly to about 125 mph (200 km/h), and this freefall will last about 55 seconds. This is the most exciting part of the jump. When you arrive at an altitude of about 4,900 feet (1,500 meters), your instructor will tap on your shoulder to tell you to prepare for the opening of the parachute. As soon as the canopy unfolds, you will slow down to about 9 mph (15 km/h). The rest of your descent will be at this much slower speed and will last about 8 minutes.

At the moment of landing, your instructor will take care of all the maneuvers, and you will only have to raise your legs and let yourself be guided, as you will have learned to do during the short training before the jump.

And that's it for the information about this incredible activity. I hope I was able to help you!
