You've probably already heard of the famous Dubai Fountain Show. It is an incredible light-and-sound water ballet that takes place on the large lake located at the foot of the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. Every year, millions of people come to watch this show that helped make Dubai famous all over the world.
In fact, this show is so popular that it has become very difficult to find a prime spot to attend for free, and it often requires arriving quite early. But did you know that it is also possible to see this show from a boat sailing on the lake? Indeed, during a small cruise in abra– a small traditional wooden boat – you will be able to get closer to the water jets and attend the most impressive aquatic spectacle of the world from a privileged point of view.
THE DUBAI FOUNTAIN LAKE RIDE
This 30-minute mini-cruise on the Burj Khalifa Lake starts about 15 minutes before the fountain show starts, which itself lasts about 10 minutes. In this traditional boat that can accommodate up to 6 people, you will go close to one of the largest fountains in the world and witness the incredible choreographed water show.
The Burj Khalifa Lake is a 12-hectare artificial lake, and the fountain is nearly 902 feet long (275 meters). Thousands of powerful jets shoot water up to 492 feet high (150 meters). From an abra, you can feel the power of these jets and enjoy this spectacular show where the water flows in harmony with some of the greatest contemporary hits, as well as classical music and traditional Arabic music.
DUBAI LAKE RIDE IN ABRA SCHEDULE
The Dubai Fountain show takes place several times a day: twice during the day, between 1 pm and 2 pm, and every evening from 6 pm to 11 pm, with two shows per hour. The small abra cruises are only available for evening shows, which means that usually the first departures are around 5:45 pm, and then every half hour.
Depending on the time of day and the season, you will be able to see quite different shows. The show is already magnificent by daylight, but it takes on a whole new dimension at sunset, when the sky turns red and orange. Watching the Dubai Fountains show at dusk is one of the most romantic experiences you can have in Dubai.
Once night falls, the show becomes even more impressive. The fountain is lit by over 6,600 LED bulbs and 25 huge spotlights, which change the colors of the water in an elaborate staging. In the background, the whole city and the skyline of Dubai are illuminated, and you are bound to be amazed by this breathtaking picture.
HOW TO GET YOUR TICKET FOR THE DUBAI FOUNTAIN LAKE RIDE?
The Dubai Fountain Show is free, but as I told you earlier, you'll need to get there very early if you want a good spot... and even then, you won't be guaranteed to find one by any means.
To go on this mini-cruise in Abra, you'll need a ticket. It can be obtained directly on site, but you can also book it online. By purchasing your ticket online before even going to Dubai, you will be sure you'll be able to experience this cruise at the time of your choice – which means you won't have to wait for several shows before you can finally embark.
HOW TO GET TO THE DUBAI FOUNTAIN SHOW IN ABRA?
To get to the Dubai Lake, you can take the Red Line of the Dubai Metro and get off at the “Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall” station.
Once there, you will first need to pick up your ticket at the Will Call Center, which is located on the first floor of the Dubai Mall. Then, you'll quickly realize that finding one of the world's largest fountains at the foot of the world's tallest building isn't particularly difficult...
“Lake Ride" signs will help you find the dock from which you will board. Your boat will leave about 15 minutes before the show starts, so try to arrive about 10 minutes before the hour indicated on your ticket.
THE FLOATING PLATFORM OF THE DUBAI FOUNTAIN
In addition to this mini-cruise, there is another way to watch the fountain’s water ballet from the lake. Indeed, a floating platform is installed on the Burj Khalifa lake: The Dubai Fountain Boardwalk. It is more than 820 feet long (250 meters), and allows you to get up to 32 feet (10 meters) from the water jets. You can walk around freely on the platform, and it will almost feel like you’re walking on water.
SEE THE FOUNTAIN SHOW FROM THE BURJ KHALIFA
There is another privileged location from which you can watch the spectacle of the fountains of Dubai: the observation deck of the highest tower in the world. Thanks to the fastest elevator in the world, you will reach the 125th floor of the tower to visit the Burj Khalifa, from which you can enjoy an absolutely fantastic panoramic view of Dubai and the Persian Gulf.
From this exceptional vantage point, you can watch an incredible sunset, and below, the spectacle of the Dubai Fountain.
